Skincare Routine for Beginners

Skincare Routine for Beginners

We all started somewhere. Before you run, you must crawl. We are going to make it as simple as possible for you to get started on your skincare journey. But before we begin, let it be known that healthy skin requires consistency. Also, what may work for your friends or family, may not work for you as everyone's skin is different.

Before you begin purchasing products, you need to establish two things, your skin concerns, and your skin type (How To Determine Your Skin Type). Some people want to treat acne, others want to address hyperpigmentation, others just want their skin to glow. If you have serious concerns like cystic acne, severe cases of hyperpigmentation or you just don’t know where to start, we highly suggest consulting with an esthetician (especially our girls at Glow Skin And Wellness.)

Once you know your skin type and your concerns, you can start with these basic types of products:

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer
  • SPF

Finding the right products for you all comes down to trial and error, especially if you’re starting without the help of an esthetician. Put rest assured it’s not impossible. Once you figure out your skin type, the next step is using products that are made specifically for your skin type. E.g. If you have dry skin, a good cleanser to use will be the COSRX Low pH Good Morning Cleanser and for oily or acne-prone skin we recommend the COSRX Daily Salicylic Gentle Cleanser.

Some people might want to begin with addressing a specific skin concern, and this is where you will need a treatment product, also known as an active (Niacinamide, Retinoids, Mandelic Acid etc.). Our post on which active is right for you is coming soon. However, in the meantime, let’s make two things known. Patch test all actives before you introduce them to your routine and if you experience any irritation while using them, please reduce or completely stop usage. Another pro tip: ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN! We cannot stress this enough.

In no time, you will be posting selfies like "I woke up like this". Be sure to tag us when you do! We love to see you making progress.
